Bihar N Biharis

Bihar, u know, is a contageous virus. Its a headache in any form u take it; for ex, why not take the elections? Newspapers of the past many weeks r infested with this n that of bihar. i m sure elections of ny other state are covered with as much fervent as that of bihar...n guess what? Biharis take pride on this.

Even while bihar is 2 blame for rendering cover pages of newspapers ineffective, i had a big revelation this week. Two of my wingies r Biharis n two more r Jharkhandis who claim bihari origin. N i never knew that the biharis have got 4-5 marriage proposals (first was when they were in std. 12!). surprisingly, one of the proposals 2 a frnd was from one of the self-proclaimed 'Kings Of Bihar' for his daughter (which number i don't know) n this proposal he received after clearing the prelims of IIT JEE!

Well, if u don't know let me xplain how the system works in Bihar. Once u cross a preliminary (be it jee or civils) ur demand in "market" increases and so does the "Demand Price" bride's father is willing to give. If u accept an offer, u don't immediately marry but there is an immediate formal engagement. Even if u r a minor, u r engaged. After completion of study/ course, when u start earning, u HAVE TO marry that gal.

There is an instance i can relate regarding this. A young student in his teens had been fixed for marriage by his family to a girl...both being youngsters. Money and other "gifts" (dowry being illegal) had been exchanged etc etc. however, when the student passed out and got a good job, he rejected the girl. U know what happened next? He was called back home on the pretext that his father was ill and forced to marry that very girl!!

Anecdotes abt Bihar n Biharis never fail to surpriseme

yeah the demand in the "market" thing is very true. One of my classmates was from Dhanbad. And throughout 4 years in the campus, he used to tell what his current price at that time was. Infact he made all his future plans by keeping in mind that if he does this his "market" value will be this and that

I agree to the "demand" issue but is it not the case with any man who is earning more? Dont girls look out for boys who earn more and specifically IITians? And I dont agree that parents force an IITian to marry a girl whose parents give more dowry. They look out for it but it is not the sole criteria for looking marriage proposals. And arrange marriages are fast being outdated even for Biharis- I think you should make some more research in this area.
